چکیده
Abstract Understanding resource allocation strategies underlying inducible defense is a challenging scientific issue, because of the difficulty in measuring allocations defensive traits. We examined allometric changes to evaluate on tail spine Daphnia within and between species further explore at different developmental stages their relationship with growth reproduction. found that four (Daphnia magna, sinensis, galeata mitsukuri) can perform significant responses when exposed fish kairomone. Different from other species, D. mitsukuri significantly enhanced slope its also among clones are adult individuals. Furthermore, show negative interaction individual growth, indicating trade-off may exist elongation growth. This study highlights species-specific provides an explanation for this allocations.

Predator induction of spine length in larval Leucorrhinia intacta (Odonata)
Questions: Do larvae of a dragonfly with a broad habitat distribution have longer abdominal spines when they co-exist with fish, and are these differences the result of phenotypic plasticity? Hypothesis: Phenotypic plasticity will result in larvae having longer spines when they are exposed to cues from predatory fish. Organism: Larvae of Leucorrhinia intacta (Odonata: Libellulidae). Research si...
متن کاملEnergetic costs, underlying resource allocation patterns, and adaptive value of predator-induced life-history shifts
We studied costs and benefits of life history shifts of water fleas (genus Daphnia) in response to infochemicals from planktivorous fish. We applied a dynamic energy budget model to investigate the resource allocation patterns underlying the observed life history shifts and their adaptive value under size selective predation in one coherent analysis. Using a published data set of life history s...
متن کاملConserved ontogeny and allometric scaling of resource acquisition and allocation in the Daphniidae.
Life histories vary widely among taxa, but within phylogenetic groups there may be a fundamental framework around which trait variation is organized, perhaps as a consequence of lineage-specific developmental constraints. In organisms with indeterminate growth, there is an ongoing problem of optimally allocating resources between growth and reproduction, and that allocation decision may manifes...
متن کاملAllometric relationships among body mass, MUZZLE-tail length, and tibia length during the growth of Wistar rats.
PURPOSE To investigate allometric relationships among body mass (BM), muzzle-tail length (MTL), and tibia length (TL) in Wistar rats and establish their growth rate change parameters. METHODS Eighteen male and 18 female Wistar rats were studied from the 3rd to the 21st week of age. BM, MTL, and TL were measured daily, and relative growth was compared using allometry. RESULTS A positive corr...
متن کاملtail flick modification of orexin-a induced changes of electrophysiological parameters in the rostral ventromedial medulla
objective: it is well known that intracerebroventricular (icv) and supraspinal injections of orexin-a elicit analgesia, but the mechanism(s) of action remains unidentified. this study aims to characterize the effect of orexin-a on rostral ventromedial medulla (rvm) neurons which are involved in the descending nociception modulating pathway. materials and methods: in this experimental study, we ...
